"The Travelocity Gnome" Is Making Gnomes Cool

Well, it's happening. Don't try and kid yourself, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You think garden gnomes are cool too. Come on, you know you do or you wouldn't be reading this. Well, it's ok. Don't be embarrassed, you're not alone. Sure, there might have been a time in the not so distant past when Americans would snub their noses at a home decorated with a Garden Gnome. I’ve met people who up until a few years ago, didn’t even know what a gnome was. Well, I'm not afraid to go out on a limb and say that's just no longer the case.

Times are clearly changing. Back in 2004, Travelocity, the online travel website adopted a Garden Gnome as their mascot or spokesgnome…if you will. I couldn't tell you if he's got a name, because everyone I know affectionately refers to him as simply, 'The Travelocity Gnome.' Travelocity has done a great job of making their commercials fun and entertaining by having the gnome travel all over the world visiting tourist destinations. It appears that they’re spoofing the unfortunate popular craze of “gnomenapping” and in the meantime have done an awesome job of proving that garden gnomes don't have to be just some lame decoration. In the commercials, “The Travelocity Gnome” goes on trips and adventures that most people would love to take part in. In the last Travelocity commercial I saw, he was cliff diving in Mexico and then visiting an Ice Hotel. Alright, well maybe I wouldn't sign up for cliff diving, but I do love Mexican food if that counts. I even saw him visit Las Vegas dressed as Elvis...now if that's not cool, I don't know what is. Somehow, they’ve found a way to continue incorporating him in commercials without the concept getting old. I still find myself letting out a small chuckle whenever “The Travelocity Gnome” shows up on my TV. I'm know that I'm not alone here because he'd be long gone if I was the only person that found Garden Gnomes amusing.

Thankfully the popularity that 'The Travelocity Gnome' has brought can be seen in a number of ways. Most importantly, which I’m sure you’d agree with is that many new varieties of novelty Garden Gnomes are now being made. On this site and others, you can find:

You name it, and you could probably find it. Along with the new styles of gnome, it's even more obvious by simply visiting websites like YouTube. It's riddled with videos of gnomes and short movies made about garden gnomes. You’ll find that people have gotten very creative in ways of using gnomes for entertainment.

We've been saying it for a long time and it's nice to know that the rest of the country is starting to agree. 'The Travelocity Gnome', has without a doubt made Garden Gnomes cool again....and nobody could be more excited about it than us.
